You’ll want to make sure you research each shop on the list, not just based on reviews or convenience of location, but whether the shop has been designated by I-CAR.
What is I-CAR and why is it important?
I-CAR stands for the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repairs and was founded in 1979 as a “global, non-profit training and certification entity dedicated to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of auto body and glass repairs (carwise)”. For an auto shop to be able to say they are I-CAR trained, every technician participating in any role of the collision repair process, from estimating to painting, must have the most recent training.
The I-CAR Gold Class difference
If a shop is advertising that it is I-CAR trained, you can trust that the shop is providing you with an accurate, safe repair. If a shop is I-CAR Gold Class, it means you are assured that your body shop has taken the extra steps and additional training required to be considered best in class for collision repair. What this means for you vehicle is that it will be restored reliably to current standards even if its brand new. An auto body shop will have their classification revoked from I-CAR if the necessary requirements are not current. In fact, only “20% of collision repair shops currently complete the rigorous training requirements needed to meet the Gold Class standard (Goldclass.com)”.
